State Releases Draft California Climate Adaptation Strategy

Oct 20, 2021 | Sea Level Rise

The California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA), in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research’s (OPR) Integrated Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Program (ICARP), is excited to announce the release of the Draft 2021 California Climate Adaptation Strategy for public review from October 18 – November 17. To learn more about our approach, including how we are using the 2021 update to close a critical gap on addressing extreme heat, visit the Draft Strategy webpage.

CNRA and OPR will host an informational webinar on October 22, followed by three regional public workshops (October 27, November 2, and November 15), and two tribal listening sessions (November 1 and 2), to invite feedback on the Draft Strategy. Registration links can be found in the Public Engagement section of the Draft Strategy webpage.

Public comments may be submitted no later than November 17, 2021.

CNRA is statutorily required to coordinate an updated state strategy to build climate resilience every three years (AB 1482, Gordon, 2015). The 2021 Strategy will be published in an online, interactive format, following the public review period. Additional information is available on the Draft Strategy website. All questions may be directed to icarp@opr.ca.gov.

Thank you for helping ensure the California Climate Adaptation Strategy is driving urgent and collective action to enable our communities, economy, and environment to thrive in a changing climate.

California Climate Adaptation Strategy Informational Webinar to be held on October 22, 2021 at 11am. Register at https://resources.ca.gov/Initiatives/Building-Climate-Resilience/2021-State-Adaptation-Strategy-Update.
